Mick & Jerry

I was watching Charlie Rose tonight and he was interviewing photographer Brigitte Lacombe. They started showing her “photographic greatest hits”, which included incredible portraits of everyone from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to Joan Didion and Helen Mirren, when this image of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall came up. It stopped me right on my track and I knew I just HAD to post it.
things of today

The crazy thing about being at an art opening at someone’s loft in Brooklyn is that when you look up and see 9 11 in digital letters, you have to ask yourself if it’s a piece that’s part of the show or the actual time.
It was the time.

Self Portrait in PS1

I was at the Barneys website and came upon a page full of all the different Proenza Schouler bags and thought they looked like little mosaic tiles, and “wouldn’t it be cool if I did a portrait with them?”… so I did?
I don’t know, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
The PS1 has replaced the Old-school Marc Jacobs Stella bag as my all-time favorite.
Yes, these are the things that concern me.

Karen Kilimnik’s work is secretly magical and has a sort of charmingly twisted vibe to it. The women in her portraits are strong, but in a real way, with their vulnerabilities exposed. Her bold, loose brushstroke creates an immediate sense of comfort and familiarity that allows the viewer to really get close to the subjects and get to know who they might be. Her work could be placed in the same category as Elizabeth Peyton’s, but I think Kilimnik’s subjects are not romanticized in such a twee way, which allows for more of an interaction between them and the viewer as opposed to the voyeuristic feel of Peyton’s work.
I would love to see her work in the pages of a magazine. How rad would it be if she did an editorial?
